WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ahead of the House Judiciary Committee’s upcoming legislative markup, Independent Women is urging committee members, through a letter of support, to pass the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, which would criminalize anyone who knowingly mutilates or castrates children, and would define medically transitioning girls as female genital mutilation.

The letter, signed by Prisha Mosley, Chloe Cole, Emelie Schmidt, LaRell Herbert, Pear Joseph, Annika Bigeleisen, and Simon B. Amaya Price, addressed to members of the House Judiciary Committee, states:

“More and more detransitioners are coming forward, and the majority of us are girls and women: this isn’t surprising, seeing that transgender identification has exploded among girls and women, many of whom are sexual abuse victims who seek to present as male because they want to avoid being violated again. But ultimately gender medicine leaves women sexually scarred in its wake.”

Andi Bottner, Vice President of External Relations at Independent Women and former Director of the International Women’s Issues Office at the U.S. Department of State, said: “We saw the barbaric practice of female genital mutilation outlawed in the United States in 2020, when Congress passed the STOP FGM Act in a bipartisan way. Five years later, we see there is still more to do to protect our children from surgical mutilation. We are so pleased to see the Judiciary Committee address this threat today.”

Prisha Mosley, a detransitioner and Independent Women ambassador, said: “It is already illegal to mutilate the genitals of a female. Laws to stop this practice are in place because of the vulgar and graphic nature of the crime. Chemical and surgical mutilation of children is equally barbaric and should have no place in America. Every child deserves protection and the right to flourish as a sexually mature adult. ”

Mosley’s tragic story was first told by Independent Women Features (IW Features), the grassroots storytelling and original journalism arm of Independent Women, through its “Identity Crisis: Real Stories About Escaping Gender Ideology” series:

In 2022, IW Features launched “Identity Crisis” to tell the stories that the media discounted, dismissed, and ignored. Bringing the raw and jaw-dropping stories of medical professionals, parents, and detransitioners, IW Features sheds light on the crippling dangers of gender ideology and its toll on America’s youth.

The Protect Children’s Innocence Act will support the Strengthening the Opposition to Female Genital Mutilation Act of 2020, or STOP FGM Act of 2020, which was passed into law by President Trump during his first term. The bill will also support President Trump’s more recent executive order, “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation,” which declared his administration will “prioritize enforcement of protections against female genital mutilation” and restore the true meaning of “care” for America’s youngest generation.
