Extremely progressive women are out in force, inundating social media with their outrage. They aren’t interested in nuance and are unbothered by facts. And they’ve seized on the tragic killing of Renee Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis as an opportunity to showcase their fury.
Not that they needed a new opportunity. For months, Left-wing women – and, yes, it does often seem to be women – have been marshalling their rage to decry, provoke, obstruct, and even incite violence against ICE as its agents do the difficult job of enforcing federal immigration law, detaining and deporting illegal immigrants. And it feels like it’s gone beyond ordinary political protest. Women tend to be blessed with a deep capacity for empathy. But when that empathy becomes toxic, morphing into a disproportionate, blinding compassion for supposedly marginalised groups, it can manifest in deeply self-destructive and irrational behaviours, all justified under the banner of being humane and then broadcast in viral clips online.
